Event Highlights...

VSNY celebrated Deepavali and Dussera on October 25, 08 at the Six Mile Run church.
It was very well attended. We had about 170 guests. The celebrations started out with
our little ones performing 'Linga Pooja'. The pooja was organized by Mrs. Prema Veerabhadrappa
and her group.

The master of ceremonies for the evening were Mrs. Shaila Parvatrao and Ms. Sarayu Kumar (VSNY Youth Member).
Our Cultural program started with Bhajan recital by the Kumar brothers- Kavish and Anish. The next item
was a dance by our pretty little girls- Shefali, Shruti, Pooja and Deeksha
and choreographed by Sarayau. They danced to a song called 'Hanategalu". The girls looked adorable with
the 'little hanategalus'. This was followed by Mrinalini Umashankar, who sang a carnatic song. Ranjan and
Roshan Mahanth were next and they entertained us with their keyboard. They played couple of songs from
Hindi movies and the audience was told to guess what song they were playing... Next, it was the little 3-year-old
Tanay who had the entire audience rolling in laughter with his dance to couple of fusion songs. Kris, Shaun
and Samhith came on stage and depicted couple of Indian folk stories. Their props and costumes were very creative.
The last item in the children's category was another dance to the popular Bollywood song "Silsila hi Chahath Ka"
and our very beautiful dancers were Aleesha, Trisha, Shloka, Sankya, Maitri, Dhruti, Shreya and Bilva and
choreographed by Rashmi Sudhindra. They dazzled us with their colorful costumes and rhythmic steps. Shruti,
Sharan, Shloka, and Sankya talked about Deepavali and Dussera.

Our president, Vijay Kumar, welcomed the gathering and also talked about the upcoming VSNA convention in Chicago.
Sundaresh Siddaiah presented a life-time achievement award to Dr. Guru Bale. This award was awarded to
Dr. Bale in the July VSNA convention in California. The audience was also treated to a slide show about
Dr. Bale and his family.

The snack break followed. And we were treated to scrumptious snacks organized by Sabita Sundaresh,
Leena Gurukar and Ratna Bale and group. Our second part of the evening started with Shivaranjini and party entertaining us with some colorful songs.
We also had a guest from India, Mrs. Manjula who sang couple of vachanas. This was followed by a music
recital by our guest artists. The outstanding event of the evening was "Navarasa Deepika", described as a choral symphony of Indian ragas,
composed and directed by Satya Narayan and Vasudha Narayan. The artists in this group were Vasudha and
Satya Narayan, Jayanti Nadig, Krishan Venkataram, Sushma Narayan, Asha Gopalan, Roopashree Hariprasad,
Vandana Mamidanna, Revathi Mamidanna, Surekha Reddy, Sughosh Narayan, Balu Nadig and Alok Kommajesula.
This program was a melodious combination of veena, tabla, keyboard, tabla, mridangam and vocal support.
The audience was treated to a multitude of songs. It was enthralling.

The cultural ended with Mahamangalarti, which was performed by Mrs. Leela Patil and Mrs. Prema Veerabhadrappa.
All of us were treated to a wonderful dinner. We have to thank Geeta and Shivraj Bhujange, Manjula and Hara,
Sujatha and Niranjan Banav, and Sudha and Ram Raya for this.
All our volunteers did a stupendous job!!! VSNY is thankful to all our hard working volunteers.
