Shivarathri and Ugadi Celebrations

Event Highlights

VSNYNJ  2008 Shivaratri & Ugadi  Celebration was held at Six Mile Run Chruch, Franklin Park, NJ and it was a Grand Success. All members with along with their families came from NY, NJ, PA and DE. Colorful traditional dresses brought out the joy and enthusiasm of the members, while offering of flowers , sandalwood fragrance from burning incense sticks, colorful decorations of Istalinga in the Anubhava Mantap  provided the perfect ambience for the celebrations.

Festivities started with invocation by Smt. Shashi Jagadeesh followed by  Shiva Pooja, followed by Invocation Dance by Mrs.Sarayu Rudrakumar. Vachanas were recited  by students of Mrs. Prabha Nagaprasad.

The highlights of the program was a showcase of talents by veerashaiva kids :
Saxaphone  was performed by Kris, Shaun & Samit
Brahmamurari dance by Trisha, Aleesha, Pooja, Sarayu & Bilva was great hit for the evening.
Dr.Vijaya Hiremath and Mrs. Sujatha Hiremath led the gatherers with  'Ishta Linga' pooja for kids followed by 108 Shiva Namavali and all the audience were part of presentation and chanted Lord Shiva’s names.
Mr.Mallesh Mariswamy sang old Kannada songs.
Puniya Koti Drama was also  great hit and all of the audience were touched by the performance of our VSNYNJ Children.
American Sharaneyaru was a hilarious presentation on a lighter note to bash their hubbies  by our own VSNYNJ Ladies.
Dr.Guru Bale presented a vachana and it was well received by the audience.
General Body Meeting of the Samaja was held. In this meeting, terms of the president and board members were amended from one year to two years in the bye laws The annual budget was also passed.
The Samaja elected new president Mr.Vijaya Kumar and his team members for a two year term.
The event ended with a Maha Mangalarati  with a song from two little adorable children, Ms Aakansha & Ms. Anvitha.

At the end, "Shivaratri Dinner" was served to everybody in the gathering. The food was delicious.
A coat drive was organized as a part of community service and Mrs.Sujatha Banav and Mr.Arpan Banav helped deliver the used coats to the homeless shelter.
