Biographies of invited dignitaries

 

Sirigere Taralabalu Swamiji

Dr. Shivamurhy Shivacharya Swamiji after taking over as the 21st Jagadguru 
of Taralabalu peetha brought in new life to the institution and made it 
popular both at national and international levels. 
He was awarded a gold medal and 7th rank in B.A. He did his M.A. 
in Sanskrit in I class from Banaras Hindu University in 1969. 
He got his diploma in German language in 1972. He has been awarded 
Doctorate for his thesis entitled `a critical study of the Sutha samhitha' 
from the same University. Later he got a scholarship from Afro - Asian institute 
for post Doctoral research in Vienna University in Austria. 
In 1977 he presented a paper at the third world conference held at Paris. 
Later he visited prestigious Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, the same year. 
On 8th Sep.1977 he demonstrated istalinga pooja at Groths city church. 
He successfully co-ordinated another conference held the same year 
between Sep.14th and 22nd at Rome. He visited the Christian holy city of Vatikan 
on the same year. In 1978 he traveled extensively in Germany, Switzerland, Holland, 
Spain, Portugal and many other European countries. He visited America and Canada 
in 1979 and returned to India and took over the reigns of Taralabalu Mutt. 
With his international connections, Swamiji delivered special lectures at 
various Universities and countries that gave him a great respect as second 
religious leader who took India's pride after Swami Vivekananda. 
He is known for his punctuality, discipline, scholarship, scientific 
and secular outlook, that has given him a good stand in the religious 
heritage of the Mutt. All people of different religions respect this Swamiji 
for his progressive, creative thinking. With these special qualities the Taralabalu Mutt 

has been receiving international recognition.

Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji

 

 

His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji is the 24th pontiff of Sri Suttur Math, established in the 10th century at Suttur, Mysore District, Karnataka. Swamiji who assumed the Peetha in 1986 at the young age of 29 years, had his spiritual training under the guidance of his illustrious predecessor H H Jagadguru Dr Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the founder president of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha, an educational and cultural organization dedicated to the ideal of providing education to the villages of Karnataka.

Sri Siddheshwar Swamiji

Jnana Yogashrama, Bijapur, Karnataka

 His holiness Sri Siddheshwar Swamiji of Jnana Yogashrama, Bijapur, Karnataka, is one of the eminent spiritual thinkers of our time. He has traveled throughout the world delivering spiritual discourses. He holds a post graduate degree in Philosophy. He has delved deep into spirituality and has written several books based on the works of Saints and Seers of India. Sri Swamiji’s discourses on Vedantha, Gita, Yogasutra, Vachana etc are known for their originality, thinking, expression and contemplation.      Sri Swamiji has edited his own preceptor’s “Pathanjali’s Yogasuthra” with great scholarly erudition. Sri Siddheshwar Swamiji’s simplicity, detachment, yogic moods, compassion, creative approach to spiritual issues and his incomparable calm and composition really make the audience feel elated and enlightened. His discourses are known for their precision and penetration attracting the layman and the learned alike. We are blessed to have the opportunity to hear him in person, here in Chicago.

Basavaraj Puranik

 

A highly accomplished educationist, translator and a prolific writer,  Basavaraj Puranik, who took up the study of Vachana Sahitya and Veerashaiva Philosophy as an interest and soon

became an acknowledged expert and speaker on Veerashaiva Philosophy.  He regularly contributes to newspapers and magazines, biography sketches of eminent kannidigas and articles on philosophy, entrepreneurship and engineering.He was till recently the editor of Basava Journal, a quarterly English magazine from Basava Samati.  He has written many books that cover diverse topics such as Veerashaiva philosophy, entrepreneurship and structural engineering.  His book Anupamacharita Allamaprabhudeva ( Kannada ) received the Prof Malwad award from Karnatak University.  His most recent book is  The artists of Inner life ( English )

 Mr Puranik is a ME from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and MS in Structural Engineering from the University of Waterloo (Canada). His spouse Dr.  Vimala is a pediatrician and they have 2 children.

Prof. Ningamma Patangi

 

An accomplished educationist, writer and eloquent speaker on Veerashaivism.  She has written several articles on woman empowerment and Shivasharaneyaru.  She has participated and delivered invited lectures at various religious meetings. Such as All India Veerashaiva mahasabha, Akhil Bharat Anubhava mantap. She has conducted several Vachana programs such as “Vachanamruta” on TV and All India Radio.

Mrs. Leeladevi Prasad

C:\Documents and Settings\Anusuya\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Word\Picture.jpg Mrs. Leeladevi  Prasad  is a most prominent and popular leader, fighting for issues pertaining to the liberation, the development, the rights and the dignity for women. She has been in active politics for more than four decades, serving either as a  legislator or as a minister in various Karnataka State Government Departments. Most prominent among them was her role as the minister for Kannada Culture and Language where she excelled in promoting our culture beyond Indian borders. She has travelled widely across the globe and has been honored with innumerable awards. Lately, she has been extremely busy resurrecting Uduthadi, the birthplace of Akka Mahadevi,  as a tourist center besides creating numerous Women’s empowerment projects. Also, she has worked with the Andhra Pradesh State government to make “Kadalivana”,  where Akka attained moksha, easily accessible to the tourists. Last year,  she succeeded in bringing a life size statue of Akka Mahadevi to reside near Chennamallikarjuna at the Shrishaila Temple premises. Though she has retired  from active politics, she has not retired from her “Kayaka”, which is “Empowerment of Women” following the footsteps of Akka Mahadevi.

Dr. Guru S. Bale

Dr. Bale, came to the United States of America in 1960.He received his doctoral degree in Bio-Statistics from the University of Oklahoma and worked for over three decades in New York City. In spite of his very long stay in America, he studies Sharna Philosophy and literature and is also engaged in making this rich and wonderful material accessible to the non-Kannada speaking world.

He has published three books after translating from Kannada to English: ‘Siddalingeshwara Shatsthala Siddhanta’, ‘Qualities of Veerashaiva’ and ‘Divine Guides’. Recently he has published ‘Shunya to Shunya’. It contains 694 vachanas of Allamaprabhu, the profoundest of Veerashaiva mystics,  Honourable Chief Minister Dr. B. S. Yaddyurappa in his message describes Dr. Bale’s service as “those of a cultural ambassador contributing to enrich the quality of life here and also there.” He is one of the advisers to the Society for Anubhava Mantapa, New Jersy, USA. Dr. Bale is a member of the VSNA and VSNY since their inception. Last year, Guru is the recipient of VSNA lifetime achievement award. He lives in Edison, NJ.with his wife Rathna Bale, Treasurer, VSNY.  They have two children, Asha and Siddesh.
